Kiten resort is located in southeastern Bulgaria, on the Black Sea coast, 55 km south of Bourgas, 5 km away from Primorsko and 12 km northwest of the neighboring Tsarevo. It is situated north of the river Kitenska, and another part of it – on a small peninsula, calledUrdovitsa.
The combination of the sea and Strandja mountain contributes the charm of the small resort, which turns into a piece of heavenduring the summer season. Beaches are the main natural resource that contributes to the development of the resort such as a center for summer recreation.
Nearthe present village of Kiten can be seenthe ruins of the fortress Urdovitsa,located 35 km from Sozopol. The name Urdovitsa comes from the Bronze Age in ancient Thrace. Now here arepreserved city walls, which were used to keepthe peninsula from the mainland. At the end of XIX-century the wall was still very well preserved. One hypothesis is that this is the last blocked port, which was exportingprovisions for Troy, which led to its fall. The first name of the village wasUrdovitsa - it was in the memory of Urdoviza – a beautiful Bulgarian woman desired by the Turkish Sultan who exempted all Strandja. She and herhorse were found death at the North Bay, which bears the name "Atliman" / or Bay Horse /. In 1931 on the Urdoviza peninsula the first settlers began to arrive and built 14 small houses type "sharonski" by the program of the Frenchman Rene Sharon.
